In a recent post we shared our thoughts about the growing impact of Houzz. How's this for amazing: our favorite kitchen photo of the NC State Chancellor's residence has been served up and viewed over 3.6 MILLION times in the past year at Houzz

Kudos to Marvin Malecha and the NC State College of DesignIt was a wonderful opportunity for Rufty Homes to build this residence. We're very proud of the impact this custom home makes around the world. Quite the #STATEMENT

With more than 25 years of experience on his tool belt, Jon Rufty has maintained a reputation as the Triangle's dean of custom home building. He's quoted extensively in last week's cover story in the Triangle Business Journal. Read on to learn more about his thoughts on the current custom home building environment with reporter Amanda Hoyle.

When Drs. Glenn and Karen Coates designed and built their French Normandy-style dream home on the outskirts of Lochmere in Cary, they included a cellar with room for 3,500 bottles of wine.

"We really had planned to invest in some wine," he says, "but then we realized that people who do that tend to not have children. We didn't love wine that much."

The same could now be said for the house, valued at nearly $3 million.  Read more

We’re always attracted to great ideas and conversations about design and construction. Three years ago, we began using then-unknown Houzz.com as a means of encouraging our clients to create “Ideabooks.” Back when we started using Houzz there were maybe two million users nationwide, and merely a few thousand here in the Triangle region. Three years later, the use of Houzz has exploded!

We felt it was a useful way for them to efficiently gather their favorite images, ideas and design styles, all the while saving them in one convenient place.

This way, whether using a laptop, desktop, or mobile device, our clients could save images to their own idea folders and share their thoughts with us through visuals. Which sure beats ripping pages out of magazines!

If you’re considering a new home, or an update to your existing residence, Houzz may be just what you need to help gather and organize your ideas.

The Rufty Homes Top Seven Reasons We Use Houzz

INSPIRATION

Some clients can visualize their dreams and clearly communicate them. Others need to point to examples for inspiration. Houzz is ideal for everybody.

DIFFERENTIATION

For six straight years, Rufty Homes has been named top custom home builder in our region by the Triangle Business Journal. Many builders claim they do “custom” work, then turn around and offer a selection of homes to chose from. Whereas, we start you with a blank canvas and ask, “What’s your dream?”

RECOMMENDATION

Nothing is stronger than a happy client sharing their experiences with us. Houzz facilitates this relationship.

CONNECTION

You may have noticed a tiny Houzz icon while browsing photos in our gallery. Click that icon on your favorite photos. Viola! They appear in your Houzz ideabook. No more bookmarks, forgotten links, or, gasp, magazine clippings.

ORGANIZATION

A picture’s worth a thousand words. On Houzz, we showcase ideas by room – indoors and outdoors. And when you're looking for something specific, i.e., “walnut cabinets” or “weathered brick,” you're guided to options, seamlessly.

SELECTION

Our favorite partners are on Houzz. So, whether you'd like interior design ideas, or the latest trends in natural stone, the very best professionals and our trusted partners showcase their skills on Houzz.
