Hot off the presses, earlier today the Triangle Business Journal named Rufty Homes as the "top custom home builder" at the 2016 Residential Real Estate Awards event, held at Prestonwood Country Club. We're honored to be recognized by the area's top business publication and appreciate our clients' trust in our work.

Three years ago, the Raleigh City Council launched the Blount Street–Person Street Corridor Plan, with aims to: facilitate business and economic development, enhance neighborhood and historic character, and improve traffic and mobility.

Rufty Homes is proud to channel the spirit of this Blount Street initiative by helping to enhance neighborhood and historic character with a newly constructed custom home. Ours is the first one, in fact, custom-built new on the "main drag" of Blount Street in the past century.

Rufty-Custom-Homes-Blount-5The home is a prime example of southern charm: a neutral hue of milky white with delightful, deep rocking chair front porch and balcony. Extensive research and design renderings made it possible for our architect to create the homeowner's dream residence. Creating a luxury home with exquisite craftsmanship and modern features, while capturing the historic character true to the Blount Street of yesteryear.

Today, this grande avenue features landmarks such as the lovely Merrimon-Wynne House, built in 1876 for Augustus S. Merrimon, a Chief Justice for the N.C. Supreme Court, to serve as his private residence. In recent years it transitioned into one of Raleigh's most sought-after wedding and corporate event venues. Across the street from the Merrimon-Wynne residence is Holy Trinity Anglican Church. Just down the road, it’s hard to miss the iconic AIA North Carolina headquarters which showcases the regions’ design excellence and collective representation of AIA North Carolina members’ talent.

We take tremendous pride in the design and construction of a residence that lovingly coexists with area landmark properties. In the case of Holy Trinity's church office an adaptive re-use of a historic home, or beautiful new construction, such as their sanctuary building or the fabulous AIA office.

Other notable "new" neighbors with our newly constructed residence on Blount Street: Standard Foods, hailed by StyleBlueprint as one of the top grocery-restaurants in the South; Yellow Dog Bread Company, with handmade artisan breads and southern influenced pastries; and Gather, a plant-filled gift shop and creative classroom.

Completion is expected this spring. As we celebrate with the new homeowner, we’ll offer a grand reveal of the century’s first home built on Blount Street, plus an exclusive time-lapse look into our custom-build process.
