Rufty Talks Custom Home Building in Triangle Business Journal

With more than 25 years of experience on his tool belt, Jon Rufty has maintained a reputation as the Triangle’s dean of custom home building. He’s quoted extensively in last week’s cover story in the Triangle Business Journal. Read on to learn more about his thoughts on the current custom home building environment with reporter Amanda Hoyle.

When Drs. Glenn and Karen Coates designed and built their French Normandy-style dream home on the outskirts of Lochmere in Cary, they included a cellar with room for 3,500 bottles of wine.

“We really had planned to invest in some wine,” he says, “but then we realized that people who do that tend to not have children. We didn’t love wine that much.”

The same could now be said for the house, valued at nearly $3 million.  Read more
