Mountain-Inspired Living

Before getting started on this project, our client, a local real estate developer, shared with us that one of their family’s favorite pastimes is heading out west to go skiing. Over the years, they’ve fallen in love with the nature-inspired, lodge-style homes, and knew that they wanted to bring that inspiration into the home they planned to build here in North Carolina.

The homeowners say, “We’re drawn to natural elements, like stone and wood. We wanted to incorporate that style into our home, without veering into a completely rustic design. It was important to us that we struck the balance between natural and contemporary. Rufty Homes helped us do just that.”

Curated Craftsman

When Bill and Donna Gast sat down to design their dream home, they had a clear vision of exactly what they wanted: a Craftsman-inspired home with built-in usable storage, beautiful wood features, and a well-designed floor plan where every room serves a purpose, set on a wooded lot to feel surrounded by nature.

“We put a lot of time and thought into designing our home, and it was important to us that we could find a builder that would support our vision, while also helping us make smart design decisions. After our first meeting with Rufty Homes, it was clear that they understood our goals and were on board some of the more unique aspects that were important to us,” explains Bill.

NC State Chancellor’s House

This home features the National Association of Home Builders’ 2012 “Room of the Year.”  N.C. State University selected Rufty Homes as builder to partner with architect Marvin Malecha, dean of the NCSU College of Design, as well as Weinstein Friedlein Architects of Carrboro.

The team was challenged by the university to create a welcoming home with a personal scale rather than a grand and intimidating design. A testimony to teamwork committed to great value, “The Point” was built with in-kind services and materials donations as well as private funds. It features all N.C. materials – from the brick to the wood framing, floors, ceilings and trim. Locally sourced brick was color-matched to Holladay Hall, the first building constructed on the university campus. The NAHB recognized Rufty Homes with its “Room of the Year” award as well as the platinum award for “Kitchen Design” in the 2012 Best in American Living Awards at the annual NAHB International Builders’ Show. Rufty utilized Design Lines, Ltd. for the interiors.
