This recently completed custom build in the Triangle is a result of the right property becoming available at the right time, and the homeowners assembling the right team to bring all their ideas together. The homeowners explain, “We originally looked at this property in 2004 when we were engaged. While we loved the land, it wasn’t the right fit for us back then and we bought a different place nearby.”
Over the years, the homeowners would drive by the land, which continued to stand out in their minds as a beautiful place to raise a family. When they saw it listed for sale in 2017, they knew that it was finally time to build on their dream property. From there, the next step was to find the perfect builder for the job.
“We had full trust in our architect group, McAlpine, to help us choose the best builder for the job. They interviewed local builders with us and once we met with Jon Rufty, it was clear that Rufty Homes was the only builder in the area that truly understood what we wanted and was capable of getting it done right,” the homeowners go on to say.
The couple was assigned Rufty Project Manager, Garth Stevens, for their build and it was like another perfect piece of the puzzle coming into place. “This was such an exciting project,” says Garth. “Greg Tankersley and Kevin Laferriere, of McAlpine, were collaborative and pleasant to work with, and the homeowners were just the best. They made it so easy for us to bring their ideas to life.”
The final addition to round out the team was Interior Designer, Sandra Moncada-Mainz, of Couture Haus. Sandra reminisces about her time working on this project, saying, “This was my first time working with Rufty Homes, and all of us worked together so well. The homeowners knew what they wanted, they were quick to make decisions, and they trusted us each to do our part. It really couldn’t have been a better experience.”
The homeowners had some key features they wanted to implement, and they felt confident that Rufty Homes was up to the task of making them happen. Garth explains, “The metal and glass hanging cabinets in their kitchen are one of the coolest designs I’ve ever had the pleasure of working on. It took a lot of engineering and factoring in weight calculations, but they ended up being this incredible focal point when you enter the kitchen. We also created beautiful stonework for the exterior that was made to look several hundred years old. That was a fun puzzle to figure out and the result is stunning.”
For her part, Sandra was focused on finding ways to showcase the couple’s unique design taste in a cohesive and elevated way. “This couple has such a great eye for design, but they each had different ideas of how they wanted the interior to look. We were able to mix and match elements from both of their design ideas to create a space that’s really reflective of them. When I look at this modern, elegant, and moody design which features fun pops of color, I see both of them so clearly in it. I’m thrilled with how we brought it all together,” Sandra goes on to say.
The homeowners aren’t the only ones reflected in the design; special thought was given to the whole family throughout the build. The homeowners explain, “We have a young son who is very into construction equipment. Garth went above and beyond to let us know when different equipment would be at the site so we could bring our son to watch. We feel like he’s grown up with this build and he loved feeling included. While he’s sad that the construction phase is over, he loves the playroom they created, which features a climbing wall and monkey bars that will keep him entertained for years.”
Even the family’s cats have their own special nook in the laundry room, which features an automatic fan sensor in the litter area. These little extra details for every member of the family are a testament to how Rufty Homes helps go above and beyond to make sure every consideration is taken during a build.
Now that they’ve moved in, the homeowners love spending time in their bright, open, and cozy space. They explain, “When this property came available again, we had a vision of what it would be like to raise our family here and now it’s come to life. We appreciate all the work that McAlpine, Sandra, Garth, and all of the Rufty Homes team did to transform this land that we’ve always loved into our forever home.”
