Embracing Nature, Building Comfort

When this Southwestern Wake County couple decided to embark on their first custom home build, they knew the journey would be both exciting and daunting. Finding the right builder to help them through the process was key to success. 

They spoke with a few builders, but Rufty Homes stood out among the rest. From the start, Rufty offered the kind of support they wanted, particularly during the height of the pandemic when supply chain issues were causing so much uncertainty. The couple explains, “What really appealed to us was how Rufty was so welcoming and transparent about everything like budgeting, the projections, etc. That hand-holding, making sure we understood each step, made us feel comfortable moving forward with them.”

When the couple thought about what they wanted most out of their new home, one of the most important things was to build a space that would allow them to enjoy nature and the beauty of their property. “We both value nature immensely, so a large outdoor covered patio was non-negotiable,” they say. “They helped us create a space that extends out from the home where we can relax, surrounded on three sides by trees, privacy, the soothing sounds of birds, and the occasional family of deer passing by.”

Of course, no custom build is complete without a place for some fun. “Another important feature was having a dedicated home theater room where we could retreat at night. This had been a childhood dream, and having it come to life has been great. The theater space is incredibly custom, and yet, the Rufty team made sure to design it with resale value in mind. There’s a large window behind the screen, so if we ever end up selling the home, the new buyers could easily repurpose the space into a bonus room. This forward-thinking from Rufty Homes really impressed us,” the homeowners say. 

The kitchen was another area of focus, as it’s where the family spends plenty of time. They say, “Cooking is one of our passions, so we wanted a space flooded with natural light, full of windows, and beautifully designed without sacrificing functionality. The openness of the kitchen, with views outside, helps foster that connection with nature, and we couldn’t be happier with the result.”

More than anything else, the couple wanted to create a home that was not only beautiful but also liveable. “We didn’t want to feel like we were walking around on eggshells, worried about being too careful in the space,” they explain. “The home had to be comfortable, and Jon Rufty understood this perfectly.” 

The couple also appreciated that the Rufty team went above and beyond to ensure the quality of the build from the ground up, even in the unseen areas of the home. They say, “In our old house, the cupboards would rattle as you walked through the kitchen, but here, nothing shakes. You can tell the build is solid. We’ve also been impressed with our crawl space, which isn’t something we expected to say! The space is padded, insulated, and clean. Even with all the windows in this house, the heat doesn’t seep in like it did in our old place. The quality is evident in every corner of this home.”

Now that they’ve moved in, the couple is enjoying all the little details that make their house comfortable and happy, like the instant hot water feature and the sight lines that allow them to see from one side of the home to the other. 

However, at the end of the day, it all comes back to connecting to nature, and that’s what makes them feel most at peace. They say, “Our home overlooks old trees that frame the windows perfectly, connecting us to the outside world that feels grounding and inspiring. This house isn’t just a building to us; it’s a reflection of who we are and how we want to live. And Rufty homes made that possible.”
