When this family envisioned their dream home, they knew it had to be energy-efficient, designed for multi-generational living, and accommodate their beloved rescue pets, all while bringing the beauty of nature indoors. In 2019, they began turning that vision into reality. After securing a 37-acre property with a pond near RDU airport, they sought the right builder, ultimately selecting Jon Rufty and his team based on glowing references and innovative ideas.
The couple had four main goals for their home: an animal-friendly design, a strong connection to nature, green energy features, and enhanced safety. Rufty Homes delivered, creating a custom dog-washing station, an interior garden with a tree centerpiece, and a barn complete with a gym and a custom "goat mountain." The home was built with sustainability in mind, featuring solar panels, a green roof, and a geothermal system.
Beyond the home’s unique design, Rufty Homes managed complex environmental regulations and incorporated long-term solutions, such as a spillway to prevent flooding from extreme weather. Bernard praised the Rufty team for their forward-thinking approach and attention to detail, from designing a loop driveway to building a discreet wall for electric boxes.
Now, Bernard and his family enjoy a home that perfectly reflects their lifestyle, thanks to Rufty Homes' creativity, collaboration, and dedication to quality. When Houston residents Paul and Pam decided to build a house in the Raleigh area of North Carolina at the beginning of 2020, they had no idea that the process would become almost completely virtual. Fortunately, thanks to the hard work of their realtor, Jamie McGuire, and a partnership with Rufty Homes, what could have been a stressful time was a smooth experience for everyone.
Pam says, “We wanted to be closer to our friends and family members who are scattered around the Northeast, so we decided to leave Houston. Eventually, we decided on Raleigh, which is located right in between both of our sons.”
We listened intently as this delightful family shared their vision for an Old World dream home with a European flair. One that was distinctly elegant, yet still casual enough for gatherings. It was very important to build with natural materials that fit in character with the surroundings.
Attention to detail in each room was of utmost importance as the homeowners used their keen artistic sensibilities to stay closely involved in the selection of materials and colors. The resulting home feels as though it could’ve been built a century ago.
