The Stories Behind the Builds

Each home we build has its own story based on the families living inside them. This year, we shared some incredible stories of the families behind the homes we’ve built and remodeled. If you missed them, you can learn more about them below.

Experience With Rufty Homes Comes Full Circle

Challenges Faced in 2023

The housing market this year faced some challenges and we were not immune to them. There were labor shortages this year that made it more difficult to find subcontractors for projects.

Ongoing supply chain issues, particularly regarding the production and deployment of new transformers, also led to significant homebuilding delays. And, even three years removed from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were still permitting delays this year that impacted the home building timeline.

We are thankful to our clients for being patient with us as we navigated these challenges. We’d also like to acknowledge the hard work of our staff this year, who stepped up to the plate and found new ways to continue providing the best possible service to our clients.

Milestones and Achievements in 2023

Despite the difficulties of this year, we’re proud of everything we’ve been able to accomplish in 2023.

  • We’ve worked with more than five national architects this year, thanks to the influx of people to the Triangle who choose to work with out-of-state architects. We’re honored to be selected to work with renowned architects locally and nationally.
  • We built a beautiful concrete house and remain one of the few builders in the area who can complete concrete projects.
  • We received the 2022 Best in American Living Award for our entry, The Power of Collaboration in Category 36: Entire Home, Over $750,000.
  • We received the 2023 Triangle Business Journal Corporate Philanthropy Award.
  • We were acknowledged as the 2023 Face of Luxury Home Building by Midtown Magazine and 5 West Magazine.
  • We were named the 2023 Diamond Awards Gold Winner in Cary Living Magazine and the Silver Winner in Midtown Magazine.

Thank you to everyone who voted for us to win these awards! We recognize that our success is possible thanks to our clients and supporters.

Philanthropic Activity and Sponsorship Events

One of our core values has always been to give back to our community by supporting organizations that make a difference in the lives of people in need. In 2022, we made contributions to the following organizations, totaling $232,984, which led to us receiving the TBJ Corporate Philanthropy Award for this year.

  • Roc Solid Foundation
  • American Heart Association
  • Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
  • NCSU Shelton Leadership
  • African American Cultural Celebration
  • NCSU
  • Frankie Lemmon
  • Memorial Presbyterian
  • Salvation Army
  • St. Jude
  • Frankie Lemmon
  • J.Y. Joyner
  • The Raleigh School
  • Junior League of Raleigh
  • NCSU

This year, not only did we make direct contributions to local and national organizations, but we also participated in several philanthropic events in the community.

  • On September 14, we hosted an Open House BBQ benefiting St. Jude. With more than 200 people in attendance, we raised money for Team Rufty in the St. Jude Triangle Walk/Run event.
  • We were a Building Sponsor for The Green Chair Project’s Charity event. Proceeds from the event support The Green Chair Project’s mission of transforming housing into homes for local families transitioning out of homelessness, crisis, and disaster.
  • We were a Gift Sponsor for the Triangle Business Journal Corporate Leadership Awards.
  • We were a table sponsor for the 2023 Women of Western Wake Forum.

Other Events

Aside from our participation in these philanthropic events, we also were part of a few other events throughout the year. In February, we attended the NAHB International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, where we received our BALA Award and enjoyed connecting with creative home designers from around the country.

Then, in March, we celebrated Women in Construction Week by hosting a social event for local designers, architects, and subcontractors, where we learned to make beautiful charcuterie boards and connected with other powerful women in the industry.

Company Highlights in 2023

We may be biased, but we have the best employees on our team. Our 35 years of success is a result of everyone on the team working together to provide the best possible service to our clients.

We value our employees and the work they do and we’re proud to have a low turnover rate.

As average project costs have increased, our response has been to increase our number of employees so we can maintain the level of quality that people associate with our company.

Growth is always a positive thing and we’ve significantly grown as a business this year thanks to our long-standing employees and new hires.

Please join us in congratulating the following employees who have been a part of the Rufty Homes team for more than a decade:

  • Parker Shanahan, 20+ years
  • Allen Moore, 20+ years
  • Kelly Nicholson, 10+ years
  • Sydney Jamison, 10+ years
  • Don Pegram, 10+ years

This year, we’ve also implemented new technology that allows us to work more efficiently. Now, project managers can use tools out in the field and back in the houses to improve the build process. We’re also using 360 cameras during builds and remodels, which gives us better insight during the project.
