Jon Rufty

Jon is a forefather of green building in North Carolina. A 1977 graduate of N.C. State, Jon built the nationally-lauded HealthyHouse™ in 1994 for the American Lung Association and National Association of Home Builders Research Center, now the Home Innovation Research Labs. He’s also responsible for the very first EnergyStar structure in our state, in cooperation with Carolina Power & Light (now Duke Energy Progress). And in 2002, he completed N.C.’s first Fortified For Safer Living® home. Jon is a member of the exclusive NAHB Builder 20 Club, consisting of the nation’s most elite custom home builders. For over 30 years, Jon has resided in Cary, N.C., and his passion for integrity is our fundamental principle.

Sydney Jamison
Business Development

Sydney Jamison

Sydney Jamison, our Business Development Coordinator, works with our clients from the first introduction all the way through the construction process, including design, specs, pricing, and contract. Her favorite part of the job is watching the visions and dreams of our clients come to life through the design process.

Originally from Raleigh, Sydney graduated from UNC Chapel Hill before working in Jackson Hole as an event planner. When she moved back to Raleigh, she worked in the property and casualty insurance industry and in onsite new construction sales.

Sydney and her husband, Rob have three kids. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her family at Smith Mountain Lake and going out to dinner with friends.

Parker Shanahan
Business Development

Parker Shanahan

Parker worked his way through the University of Massachusetts in construction and loved it so much that 30 years later he’s still at it. He enjoys getting up knowing his workday is an opportunity to meet families who rely on him to help design their dream custom home. When Parker’s away from the homesite, he loves to mountain bike and cook up the food he grows in his garden. Favorite movie: Blade Runner. Favorite band: Foo Fighters. A wise one this Parker, inspired by Yoda he is.

Kelly Nicholson
Business Manager

Kelly Nicholson

Our Business Manager, Kelly Nicholson, does a little bit of everything, from managing financial statements and project budgets to marketing and human resources. This diversity is part of what she loves most about the job, navigating the challenges of the ever-changing world of construction.

Kelly graduated from NC State with a BA in Accounting, and as a CPA, she worked in a number of different industries before joining Rufty Homes in 2011.

When she’s not working, you can find Kelly planning her next mission trip. She’s been on about 20 trips since 2011, both domestic and international, and is always looking forward to the next one. Kelly is married to her husband, Jamie, and they have two grown daughters, Bridget and Jesse.

Michael Koppen
Project Manager

Michael Koppen

As a Project Manager, Michael’s responsibilities encompass the entire scope of a project, from estimating, purchasing and production. He works directly with the clients, designers, architects, vendors and municipalities.

Michael’s journey began at the age of 13 with his first job at a local hardware store in Katonah, NY. From there he began his 30-year career in the building industry as a carpenter eventually moving to Colorado and starting his own business. He has built various types of homes including traditional post and beam, contemporary and log homes. He even built a hay bale home on the high plains of Colorado.

When he isn’t working, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife, Robin, and two children, Elke and Gavin. He is also an avid disc golfer and outdoor enthusiast enjoying the coast and mountains of NC.

Chris Bridgewater
Project Manager / Remodeling

Chris Bridgewater

Chris Bridgewater, a Remodeling Project Manager, spends his days coordinating schedules and contractors for remodeling projects that meet and exceed our customer’s expectations. As remodels are typically done while the customers are living in the house, Chris often becomes a temporary family member during the course of a project.

Passionate about construction for most of his life, Chris began working on remodels and renovations while he was still in high school. He is skilled in all areas of carpentry, from framing to fine cabinetry and particularly enjoys working on additions. His favorite part of the job is seeing the look of relief on a client’s face when they get exactly what they were expecting at the end of the project.

Chris has been married to his wife, Amy for 31 years, and they have 3 daughters, 2 sons, 3 granddaughters, and 1 grandson. Outside of work, Chris enjoys going fishing with his kids and riding his Harley.

Garth Stevens
Project Manager / Custom Homes

Garth Stevens

As a Project Manager, Garth understands the importance of having a great eye for detail and time management skills. His main responsibilities include keeping the job on schedule, making sure the budget is in check, and performing quality control, all while putting the client’s best interest first. 

As a teenager, Garth worked for a local remodeler in the summers, before transitioning to new construction work in 2002. He enjoys working on custom home projects with unique features that are truly one-of-a-kind.

When he’s not working, you can find Garth spending time with his wife and two daughters, cheering on Duke sports, putting his handiwork to use on deer stands or duck blinds, and perfecting his homemade BBQ sauce.

Harry Grube

Harry Grube

Harry is our man when it comes to remodeling luxury homes. He serves as a project manager for all your custom home additions, updates and remodeling projects. Good thing he’s a 32-year industry veteran of residential construction. Our clients love Harry, because they know he does everything in his power to streamline the process and deliver outstanding results. 

Don Pegram

Don Pegram

Don comes from good stock with lineage that includes both grandfathers working in building trades. One was a carpenter and the other a commercial welder. Don has 38 years of industry experience that began when he worked his way through N.C. State doing construction. We’re delighted to have him managing our custom home projects, as he’s a specialist at forming lasting relationships with families to help them visualize and achieve their dream home.

Client Coordinator

Nicole Pounders

Client Coordinator, Nicole Pounders, loves helping clients in the early stages of development to come up with ideas for functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces. She believes that watching their plans come together during construction is one of the best parts of working in this industry.

Nicole’s love of home building began as a child when she’d spend summers with her aunt, who was a custom home builder, and her dad and grandfather who were project supervisors. Design and construction run through her veins, which led her to graduate from East Carolina University (go Pirates!) with a BS in Interior Design. With a 17-year background in kitchen and bath design, Nicole is a proud member of the National Kitchen & Bath Association and has an Allied Kitchen & Bath certification. 

When she’s not working with our clients, Nicole enjoys spending time outside staying active, whether mountain biking, kayaking, playing volleyball, or visiting the beach. She and her boyfriend are always on the go, loving life with their three kids, two dogs, and a cat. 

Mary Beth Buie

Mary Beth Buie

Mary Beth Buie is a North Carolina native and graduate of Meredith College where she earned a B.S. degree in interior design, with minors in business and art. Mary Beth’s 17 years of experience enable her to derive great satisfaction in working with her uniquely talented Rufty teammates. She also enjoys experiencing clients’ excitement as they realize their dream custom home, completely tailored to their personal tastes and lifestyle. Mary Beth has two children and is married to a commercial builder. She’s active in her church, enjoys sewing, embroidery and spending time at the beach with family.
